THE QUEEN'S THEATRE

The Queen's Theatre has been catching a lion's share of the holiday bus!-' ness, and the managerial smile grows broader daily. It is a well-deserved smile, for outside the cosy appointments of the new picture venture the programmes have been m keeping. This week Marguerite Clark has been delighting large audiences m a delight- | t\i\\y bright impersonation of "The Pretty Sister of Jose," a part which fits hear versatile vivaciousness like a glove or a hyphen m a compound word or any other old simile. However, Marguerite comes off this Saturday to make way for "her hated rival," Blancho Sweet, In an immense dramatisation of "The Dupe/ a picture which is said to knock even "The Cheat" galley west, wherever that may ! be. "The Dupe" is the old story of pigeon plucking, "the woman tempted me and I did eat," and is full of graphic and exciting situations, There is the inevitable good woman and good man, and the inevitable bad woman and had man, and among- them all they tie things up m a holy knot, -which, after many sensational developments, Is properly untied by the hero, and | everybody, except the bold, bad people live happily ever after. It is a fine human study. ' The music, under the baton of Signor Alf. Truda, continues to be an abiding pleasure, and so far as the Queen's is concerned, all goes as merrily as the proverbial marriage bells. Nothing is supposed to succeed like success, but succeac m these hasty, modern days is dependent upon merit. The Queen's has the goods and is delivering them. "The Dupe" will continue to be duped for tho next week, and if the Christmas business was any indication, those who wish to witness the process should either reservo seats at the theatre or ring up for them at any old time, day or night.
