Consequently, the Law Society, for the protection of tho culpable "Costs" and Itself, stepped Into tho breach the other day at the Supreme Court, where Lawyer F. W. Johnston, on behalf of the Canterbury Law Society, applied to his Honor Mr. Justice Dennlston for an order suspending Robert Thomas Leathom from acting as a barrister and solicitor pending the decision of the Court of Appeal to STRIKE HIM OFF THE ROLL. It was also asked that the matter be referred to the Court of Appeal. Both applications were granted. On the same day, Lawyer Bob Leathern was present m the Magistrate's Court to answer a private Information of false pretences concerning a cheque for £11. When Leathern was called upon to plead, however, the Informant stepped forward and said ho had no evidence to offer. Tho case was withdrawn by leave of the Court. Later ln the week the unfortunate Leathom's nume llgured prominently again nt tho Magistrate's Court, when the adjourned case, m which Leathom's law clerk sued for £22 10s wages, was resumed. Lawyer Goodman conducted* tho case for the Judgment creditor. Judgment debtor Leathern, however, did not appear. An order was mado for tho amount claimed, In default 22 days' imprisonment. The erstwhile genial Bob's trouble did not end at this juncture. There were also claims against him by F. D. Kesteven for £31 Ms Cd, and £32 ss, by L. W. Balklnd for £25 Ids. and by Laura Elizabeth Allen for £39 0s 6d. Orders were made for payment forthwith, m default a month's Imprisonment on each case.
