JACK JOHNSON BARRED.

Cannot Cross Canadian Border,

By' the terms of a general order issued by the Canadian .Government to the immigration inspectors at all border ports of the Dominion, Jack Johnson, the pugilist, has been barred from admittance into Canada. The official reason for this action is that Johnson, who is now (that was m February last) said to be ill of pneumonia m his homo m Chicago, has been designated as an "undesirable." Under the Canadian ininilgraticm law, Johnson is debarred from entry by reason of "moral turpitude." Johnson endeavored to leavo the jurisdiction of tho United States courts a.t Chicago a month before, although under indictment for violating the Mann "White Slave" Act. his destination at that time being Toronto. Ho was arrested at Battle Creek, Mich., and returned to Chicago, his departure from the latter city having been tipped off to tho United States authorities. Johnson has two high-powered, expensive automobiles m Toronto, which wore shipped there m odvanco of his attempted flight from the United States. It is intimated at Toronto that communications from the Department of Justice at Washington to the Ottawa authorities rosultod m the order prohibiting John- | son's entry into Canada. At any rate, Johnson's arrest at Battlo Creek precipitated the order for his exclusion. It is pointed out that this is likely to have tho effect of barring Johnson from landing anywhere on British soil, which makes a heavy-weight "Whito Hopo" superfluous. The Canadian ordor against Johnson, it appears, kills him m a sport-

ing sense m any Anglo-Saxon country. * The action of the Dominion authorities is m response to public sentiment throughout Canada.
