The traveller may leave Brisbane by train, departing on Friday at ; 10.25 p.m., passing through Gympie, j Maryborough, • and Bundaberg, arriv- : ing at Gladstone at 12 noon on Satlurday. He is then taken alongside ! the pier, and at once embarks on the ■'turbine steamer Bingera. Tne sea trip from Gladstone is perhaps the most pleasant ocean voyjage that could be undertaken m any i part of the world. : To those making the journey for i the first time it is indeed a revelation. I The ports of Mackay and Bowen are touched at, and the Bingera arrives at Townsville on Monday morning before daybreak, and the traveller has the of landing at Townsville and proceeding to Charters Towers or North - Western ■ Queensland, or of taking the s.s. 'Kuranda f O r Cairns, via the famous 'Hinchinbrook Passage. By this route !he has the opportunity afforded him of seeing some of the ports at whictfi ■the large coastal steamers do not | < call such as Lucinda, Geraldton, and i Cardwell. or he may await the large ! coastal boats, which leave Tojrasiville on Wednesdays and l-rmays, i and go by the outer passage direct ! to Cairns. But he should not miss ithe Hinchinbrook Passage, and perhaps the best time to see it is on the return trip. . One would almost imagine thai Tennyson had this part of the world !in view when he wrote his famous poem of the "Lotus Eaters," for one is indeed fascinated by its beautiful witchery.
