FOOTBALLER CHARGED WITH EMBEZZLEMENT.

There was a crowded court to -witness, the appearance of George Bater m the dock at the Auckland Police Court on Monday morning, the crack Auckland representative being charged with embezzlement from the well-known firm pf ; chemists, Sharland ,and Co. The ■ amount mentioned on, the charge sheet was £100.; 0s 3d, and Chief Detective Marsack men- -| tioned that a' remand was necessary owing to the accountants not having arriv-' ed at a decision as to the actual defalcations, which, however, Were quite large enough to make the use of four figures i necessary. j Mr Bloaifield had no objection to a re- ■ maad, and the bail, which was fixed at j two sureties m £100 and himself m £200 was entered into, Jack Pagni.the proprietor df the British Hotel, and contractor Watson' stepping forward as sureties. .■•■•" ■ •' ■ •■ •
