Tfeere is. a clasuse m the Post and Telegraph Act which states that anybody who plasters a. notice of any sort on 'a telegraph pole is liable to a fine not • .exceeding £20. On St. Patrick's Day Robert Reid was asked by the clerk of the borough of North-East Valley to post! a number of bills" regarding the poll for amalgamation with the city, Of . course, he wasn't, told where ;to^put them, and he posted them just where he liked. He put about thirty, bills .on telegraph poles, and the police dropped on him. .• . At tlie DunediiT Police Court on March 3p he pleaded ignorance of the. law. . SubInspector Phair • said the department wanted to keep the poles clean. He said also that the department reckoned thaiit would take a man four, days to clean, /the poles. The. case was adjourned for a week j;o allow Reid to go round and clean the posts. •
