SCHOOL DESTROYED ORIGIN A MYSTERY. Per Prose Association. WHAKATANE, January 10. The main building of the district high school was totally destroyed by fire at 2 o’clock* this morning. The fire had a good hold before the brigade arrived, and blazed furiously for a considerable time, lighting up most of the town. The origin of the outbreak is a mystery, but incendiarism is suspected. The portable classrooms near by were caved by the fire brigade. BLAZE AT MAMAKU Per Press Association. ROTORUA, January 10. A billiard room and shop and dwelling in tho main street of Mamaku were destroyed by fire early on Sunday morning. The owner was Sarah Jane Overall. The cause of the fire has not been discovered. The owner was aroused by smoke and gave an alarm. There were no fire appliances, and the building could not be saved. Insurances totalled £OOO in the Northern office on the building, and £IOO on the atock. -
