OBITUARY
MR DOUGLAS PIELOU. ALP. l Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received January 10. 7.20 p.m.) LONDON, Januarv 9. . Air Douglas Pielou, Conservative member of the House of Commons for Stourbridge, is dead. AIR H. L. LEVESTAAI. On Saturday afternoon Air Hubert Lawrence Levestam district manager in the Wellington branch of the Government Life Insurance Department, died suddenly. The late Mr Levestam, whose home was at Ngaio, went for a swim, and when walking through the borough reservo afterwards said ni* hands were numb. He had not gon* much further when lie fell dead. Mr Levestam was born at Nelson in 1876. His parents were very early settlers in the Dominion, his father, Air H. L. Levestam, being one time member of Parliament for Nelson. Air Levestam joined the Government Life Insurance Department at the age of 16, and had been attached to the department ever since. In 1916 he wa* appointed manager of tho Wanganui branch, and ten years later Was made manager of the Christchurch branch. About four months ago he was transferred to Wellington as manager here. He was a prominent (swimmer and bowler, and took a special interest in swimming wherever he went. He leaves a wife and three young children. Brothers living are Mr F. W. G. Levestam, Kilbirnie; Air A. S. Levestam, Sydney; and Mr H. A. Levestam, Westport.
