SOUTHERN SMASH
TWO MOTORS IN COLLISION FATAL ENDING. Per Press Association, CHRISTCHURCH, January 10. Shortly after 9 o’clock last night two motor-cars collided on the road to Now Brighton at Ellis’s corner. One passenger by the cor coming from New Brighton, Mrs Boon, of 40, Edinburgh street, Spreydon, died in the Christchurch Hospital (shortly before midnight as the result of severe injuries to her head. She was 38 years of age. Tho car was a milk delivery vehicle, and those in it were Mrs Boon, AV. Boon, of 499, Ferry road, Woolston; S. Sullivan, a school teacher, of Ashburton ; and Fergus and Mrs Fergus, who were staying with Mr and Mrs Boon, to whom they are related. The car was coming from New Brighton, and close behind it was a second car containing other members of the picnic party. The second car the collision was a taxi, driven by a man named Matthews, but he escaped uninjured. The car was almost _ completely wrecked, and the taxi was badly smashed in the front, the radiateur and mudguards and axle smashed. Boon suffered a great deal from shock, but did not have to remain in tho hospital. Sullivan had his nose badly injured.
