BIG CRICKET
AUSTRALIANS COMING CLUB SIDE,TO TOUR DOMINION SIX INTERNATIONALS Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, January 10. The management committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council has been most anxious to secure a visit by an overseas team during the present season in view of the forthcoming English tour. Negotiations were entered into with South Australia, but broke down on the question of terms, the South Australians stipulating 15s a day expenses, while the council resolutely refused to give more than the maximum ©ver granted to a visiting team, 10s a day. The council’s Australian representative (Mr T. Howard) was then advised to ask the Board of Control to send an Australian' team, but he replied that in view of the New South Wales visit to Western Australia and the Macartney benefit match at Sydney it was improbable that a good team could be sent. Nowise perturbed, the management committee approached Mr Hugh Trumble, and asked for a Melbourne club side with Trumble as manager. After many cables have been exchanged it has now been definitely arranged that a side shall be sent subject to the governing body’s approval. The team will include Hendry, Ransford, Armstrong and Ebling with possibly two other internationals. Such a side should give a New Zealand team a good try out before the start of its great adventure.
