less campers about this YEAR "WHAT IS THE REASON?” “Last year about every second car one encountered was carrying camping gear, but this Christmas motorists thus plensure bent are few and far between ’’ This observation was made yesterday by a motorist who is continually on the road between New Plymouth and Wellington. Whether it has been the unsettled weather conditions during the past week or so, or the lack of facilities in the various camping sites that has dampened the enthusiasm of motorists is difficult to say.' Nevertheless, it is very noticeable that over Christmaß there have been comparatively few holidaymakers pitching their tents in shady nooks ill the. reposeful country. It is probable, however, that, with the arrival of the New Year, camping out will regain much of the popularity it won this time last year.
