CIVIC LEAGUE
AND THREEPENNY FARES EFFORTS TO INFLUENCE PARLIAMENT. Councillor H. D. Bennett put the following question to the Mayor at question time at tha meeting of the City Council on Thursday night:— Has your attention been drawn to the activities of the secretary of the Civic Leaguo in his efforts to influence Parliament to refuse protection asked for by the Tramways Department in connection with the Motor Omnibus Traffic Bill, and in view of the fact that the retention of the present threepenny fare is entirely dependent upon such protection being given, whether you will remember this when next the Civic Leaguo asks —as it often does—for further concessions affecting tramway finance? The Mayor: I will make a note of it.
