VICE-REGAL His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral (Sir Charles Fergussou) is suffering from an attack of influenza, and was unable to preside over the proceedings in connection with the opening of the new Masonic Temple on Wellington terrace. Dr. MeKibbin, of Dunedin, is in Wellington. The Hons. G. J. Smith, G. Witly, and J. Barr, M.L.C., arrived from the south yesterday. Mr F. W. Hart, Clerk of tho Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, returned hv the Marinin after n «ix weeks’ visit to Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. A passenger by the Tahiti from Wellington yesterday afternoon for San Francisco is Mr W. Grounds, chairman of tho New Zealand Dairy Producers’ Board. Among the passengers who left Wellington by the Tahiti for 6an Francisco are Mr and Mrs A. C. Elkington, of Berkeley, California, who have been touring New Zealand. Lieutenant V. Gibbs, R.N., who is returning to England after service in the New Zealand Naval Division, is a passenger by the Tahiti for San Francisco. Mr H. A. Beauchamp, New Zealand manager for Messrs Kodak (Australasia) Limited, who has been on a. visit to Australia, returned by the Tahiti on Monday. Mr Norman Hallidav, vice-president of the Nash Motor Truck Company, New York, is in Wellington just now, and was a guest at the Rotary Club luncheon yesterday. Mr Bennett North and Mr J. H. Hopkins, who are adjudicating a t the Wellington competitions festival, which opens on Saturday, arrived in Wellington by the Mar am a yesterday from Sydney. Both gentlemen are accompanied by their wives. One of the passengers by the Niagara is Mr F. G. Peterson, director of the Imperial newr. department of the London “Times.” He is making n tour of the Dominion and Australia, and will visit the towns of New Zealand before proceeding to the Commonwealth. There were several prominent visitors at the weekly luncheon of the Wellington Rotary Club yesterday. Among them were Mr Backhaus, the famous pianist, accompanied by Mr E. J. Graves lock, Hon. J. B. Gow, M.L.C., Mr Clutha Mackenzie, Rotarian E. Cutten, S.M. Auckland), Mr E. J. McKenzie, acting engineer in chief, Public Work 3 Department, and Mr A. G. Skinner Government Printer. The Mayor, Rotarian C. J. B. Norwood, was also welcomed on his return from Australia.
