TOWN-PLANNING BILL

SUPPORT OF PETONE MORE INFORMATION REQUIRED. “I notice we are one of the very few councils that has supported the Town Planning Bill.” observed the deputy-Mayor of the PetoriO Borough Council (Mr C. P. Brocklebank), at last night’s meeting, when communications were received from the Prime Minister (Hon. J. G. Coates), the leader of the Opposition (Mr H. E. Holland), Mr G. W. Forbes, M.P., and Sir J. G. Ward, acknowledging receipt of the council’s resolution, according support to the Bill. A councillor remarked that there seemed to be something behind the lack of support from other local bodies. A further letter from the Hawera, Borough Council requested support of a resolution protesting against the proposed Bill in its present form. It was contended that undue and unnecessary expense would be imposed on property-owners bv the proposed legislation at a time when strict economy was essential. The letters were received, and it was decided to support the clause in the Hawera body’s communication, urging that information in regard to any Act being interpolated should be circulated among local bodies interested.
