COMMON GAMING-HOUSE
PROPRIETOR FINED HEAVILYJ
RESULT OF POLICE RAID. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, August 16. As the result of a police raid on Saturday afternoon, Peter Augustus Healey was fined £7O for keeping a common gaming-house, and Michael Farrell for assisting was fined £2 10s. James Chalk, charged with being found in a common gaming-house, said that ho was there to learn the result of a race. The magistrate held that this was a lawful purpose.
William Gibson said that he went to get a shave, and had to wait as tho chairs were full. Ho went to the office to learn the result of a race George Bolton said that ho accompanied Gibson as a friend. The informations against these were also dismissed.
