The Mayor (Mr C, J. B. Norwood) returned From Australia yesterday by the Tahiti. Messrs R. A. Singer and Alan MoElwnin, of Auckland, who were in Wellington for the week-end. left for the north by the “Limited” on Sunday night. Mr Arthur G. Frost has resigned his position as musical director of the Majestic Auckland, to take up his former position with the J. C. Williamson Vaudeville Company. A Press message from Onmnru reports the death of the Right Rev. Monsignor Mackay, at the age of 85, after a long illness. He was born in Banffshire, and ordained in Paris in ISG3. He went to Dunedin in 1872. After holding charges at Queenstown and Wakatipu goldfields for seventeen years, he was appointed to Oamaru in 1890. He retired near the end of last year. Captain F. H. \V. Goolden, R.N., lire arrived in Sydney by the Blue Funnel steamer A&canius. He is succeeding Captain Boyes as flag-captain of H.M.A.S. Sydney, and will also be chief of staff to the Commodore. During the cruise of the Special Service Squadron Captain Goolden wr_s in command of H.M.S. Hood. During the war he served on the Iron Duke under Admiral Jellicoe. and was at the Battle of Jutland. Captain Goolden ic accompanied by Mrs Goolden and their three children. Mr W. G. Brigham, assistant city engineer, who has not been in good health for some time past, has been advised by his doctor to retire from office, and it is understood that a recommendation will be made to the City Council by the finance committee that he shall be granted special leave until January, when he will retire on superannuation. Mr Brigham was. in fact, entitled by his long service to retire last January, but consented to remain in office for another year, in view of the great volume of work in hand.
