It has now been revealed that a caddie's nimble wit was responsible. It is a “blind” hole, over a small hill, and the caddie's confederates used to hide in the trees around the green, and when a good tee shot landed on the green they rushed out and put the ball in the hole and scrambled back into the bush like rabbits, subsequently sharing with the caddie the extravagant tips that players usually dispensed on such occasions. The trick, however, was played once too in consequence a warning is now placed in the clubhouse.
