FORTY-FOUR HOUR WEEK
UNION OFFERS CONCESSIONS DISPUTE MAY BE SETTLED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received May 27, 11.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 27. The Metal Trades Employers’ Association, at a meeting to-morrow, will consider an offer by the disputes committee of the Trades Hall, that their employees, without prejudice to the employers’ privileges under the Federal awards, will resume on the terms of a 44-hour week, to he worked in either five or six days, as required by the employer, and be paid on time worked only; the disputes committee to give an undertaking that no demand for increased be made until the newly-constituted Federal Court deals with the matter; restrictions on overtime and shift work to be reiroveed, and overtime and shifts to be worked as required by the employer. It is expected that the dispute will end to-morrow.
