TROTTING

Tho Oamaru Trotting Club was unfor- ’ tunate through having to postpone its autumn meeting. The horses were all on the spot, and a number of visitors were also at the scene of action. The Continuous rain that fell during the latter end of last week left the track in a sodden state. It was hoped that when a slight break occurred in the weather on Friday afternoon that the meeting would be able to be held, but rain fell throughout Friday night and early on Saturday morning, thus making conditions so bad that it was -wisely decided to postpone the meeting for a week. Tho action of the officials in acting so promptly was much appreciated. Their decision was communicated to Christchurch by 6 o’clock Saturday morning, and the 1 s{>ecial train from Christchurch was cancelled. The officials are to be com pii- , merited on their generosity in assisting owners to the extent of paying half of the expenses as from Satuixlay until the day of the races, which is next Saturday. Half a dozen horses were railed i back to Christchurch on Saturday night, including Peter Bingen, Dixies Pride, Sparkling Chimes, Ratana. Audommion, Wire. Nelson Ata and Escapade. With one exception, thev will return to Camara in time to fulfil their engagements on Saturday next. It is expected that matters in connection with the amalgamation of the trotting and galloping clubs are developing, and representatives from each club are to meet at an early date to consider the question and formulate a scheme whereby finality might be reached. As both, clubs are earnest in their endeavours as to joint control, there is every reason to believe this happy position is likely to exist in the very near future. Although we cannot vouch for its accuracy (says the "Sun*’’) it is stated that the constitution of the new party will be three ; members from each club, with the chairman appointed from each club in alternate years. A Christchurch sportsman was negotiating for Tennessee’s Child, but the figure quoted was considered too high and no business resulted. The full-brother to Don Wild is receiving his education at Te Awamutu, where lie is moving as if he will develop a lot of speed J. Shaw is suffering the inconvenience of a poisoned hand.
