COLLEGE OLD BOYS

WAR MEMORIAL HALL START TO BE MADE SOON. There is every indication that the work on the Wellington College Old Boys’ War Memorial Hall will be commenced in a week or two. This information is conveyed in the annual report of the association, which contains the following paragraph: “The war mcroial fund, with interest, now stands at £6168 13s lid. Until a few weeks ago your committee was disappointed with the slow progress of events since the last annual meeting. We had felt confident that tho foundation-stone would be laid by February or March of this year. Meanwhile the memorial hall is becoming every day more essential to the school. Until the school has such an assembly hall, the daily meeting of new boys with the older pupils cannot be held. This .alone must seriously affect the community spirit of tho school. Further, we have not yet been able to do justice to tho memory of the fallen or to keep faith with the subscribers to the fund. “However, we are now able to report that there is every indication that the work will be begun in a week or two. After consultations between Dr Marsden, the architect, and the officers of tho department and a conference between Dr Mnrsdcn nnd two representatives of your association’s committee, an understanding was reached whereby if will he possible, ns we have said, for the erection of the memorial hall to be put in hand almost at once.”

There is no doubt that “Give and Take,” presented at the Opera House last night, will prove a winner, for there is plenty of laughter and clean fun about it, but sartorially there is little scope, for there is only one woman in the cast, and as she plays the office secretary there is not much opportunity for elaborate dressing. Miss Vera Spaull makes a very trim figure in her first frock, a navy crepe de chine with pleated skirt and jumper bodice, and in her last of beige stockinette with side pleats and buttoned at one side of the front. In the second act sho makes a gayer appearance in a simple silk frock of broad 6tripes in rose colour and cream and fine black stripes. In all three, however, she manages to look quite charming.
