FORTY-FOUR HOUR DISPUTE
COMPROMISE SUGGESTED 92 HOURS A FORTNIGHT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. — (Received May 24, 11.5 p.m ) SYDNEY, May 24. Th* conference to consider the dispute over tiie 4.4-liour week has adjourned, to enable the employees to consider a proposal from the masters that ir/m work 48 hours in one week and 44 hours in the next week, and these periods alternately, payment to be on the basis of the time worked. The conference will reassemble when the unions have prepared their replies to the proposals. The management of the Broken Hill Proprietary Steel Works and Rylands wire works have notified their employees that from to-night they will be required to work 44 hours a week, and if they refuse further action will be taken.
