All the United State® is shocked by C hicago’s latest murder, in which an assistant to the State Attorney, named MeSwiggin. and also two notorious beer-runners, James Doherty and Thomas Duffv, were killed by a group of gangsters. MeSwiggin, who was making underworld investigations regarding a murder case assigned to him, was talking to Doherty and Duffy and two other men o„n the street, when a curtained automobile drew up, bristling with weapons, the chief of which was a machine-gun. All blazed out, and Mo Swiggin and Doherty fell dead. Duffy was mortally wounded. The remain ing t\*o men took Duffy to hospital, where lie died. They took the bodiei of MeSwiggin and Doherty miles away. where they left them. Later, abandon ing the car elsewhere, they fled, anA are still undiscovered. ft is uncertain whether MeSwiggin was killed because he was responsible for many death sentences on gangsters, or whether Doherty and Duffy werA slain on. account of the beer-runners' ’feud, .and MeSwiggin was an acci dental victim. Hundreds of suspects have bee* rounded up throughout the city.
