PARISH MEETING

ST. PAUL’S PARISH.

The annual meeting of St. Paul’s parishioners was held last night in Sydney street hall, when the annual report was received. The Ven. Archdeacon Johnson presided, Mrs Lawrence, who moved the adoption of the report, stated that the mechanism of the organ will soon have to be renovated by the instalment of an electric motor. The church is now 60 years old and is in a very good state of repair. He called attention however, to the state of Sydney street and Tinakori road halls, which were badly in need of repair and painting. The vicarage also requihed repair.

. Archdeacon Johnson said that in a short time he would complete his fifteenth year in charge of St. Paul’s. He called attention to the death of two old parishioners, the late Mr Barraud and Mrs Rigg. He said that to Mr Lawrence St. Paul’s owed the renovation of the church. He thanked Mr Lawrence for liis long service as churchwarden. He spoke words of praise of the Rev. Mr Bianchi’s work in the parish. He has" attracted a very large congregation to the children’s services at Tinakori road, and he has also done much for the boy scouts and the Young Men’s Club. He also thanked Mrs McDonald for her work, especially for the visiting of those in hospital, and Miss Walker for work amongst the girls, both in the G.F.S. and the Girl Guides, as well as the Bible Class. He added thanks to the outgoing vestrymen and also Mr Curtis. It takes some time for a man to know all the work of a vestryman, and he hoped they would continue to give their services. He thanked also the Ladies’ Guild, and lastly the choir for their work, under their organist, Mr Robert Parker, who is now getting, on to his fiftieth' year as organist. He thanked, in conclusion, all the church workers, Sunday school teachers, and the auditors and treasurer. He drew attention to the work of the Sunday schools for which Synod had this year made more efficient arrangements. Mr Curtis, who moved the adoption of the balance-sheet, said that they had a deficit on income, caused by the heavy expense this year, but they had also received extra donations. The usual amount received from the ordinary sources amounts to about £l2Ol, whereas the running expenses are something over £I4OO, so that special donations are always necessary. If there had not been the extra expenses this year, there would have been a considerable credit. They were considering the system of regular weekly donations from parishioners. Mr H. D. Bennett was appointed Vicar’s warden for the ensuing year, and Mr A. J. Curtis as parishioners* warden. Messrs Cachemaille, Campbell, W. F. Ward, C. , F. Turner, Dunning, Shirtcliffe, Coghlnn, E. F. Richardson, Lawrence, L. Buckeridge, were elected vestrymen. Messrs Allen and Sutton were elected auditors.
