OBITUARY
DEATH OF LADY MACKENZIE.
A very wide circle of New Zealanders will hear with much regret of the death of Lady Mackenzie (wife of Sir Thomas Mackenzie), who left for England recently on a health visit. bu‘ Thomas and Lady Mackenzie on their arrival in England went to their daughter, Mrs A. G. Macdonald at Tunbridge, as Lady Mackenzie had wished to be with her while her health was so uncertain. A Press Association catdp message was received from London yesterday announcing her death. 'Lady Mackenzie was Miss Ida Henrietta Nantes, daughter of a gentleman of French extraction, who cams out to Geelong, Victoria, in the early days, and lived there for a considerable number of years, though he and his family made many visits to England. After her marriage, Lady Mackenzie settled down in New Zealand, and made friends all her life, as she was one of a fine and most kindly character. While in England during the war, when Sir Thomas was High Commissioner for New Zealand, Lady Mackenzie assisted in his splendid work for the New Zealand soldiers, and was personally beloved for her hospitality and good work. The family consists of five sons, Dr Kenneth Mackenzie, the well-known surgeon, Auckland; Dr Bruce Mackenzie, radiologist, Auckland; Mr Olutha Mackenzie, also of Auckland, whose work for the blind is so well known;.and Messrs David and Cusack Mackenzie, fannera at Gore and Balclutha. One daughter survives her mother, Mrs A. G. Macdonald, and the other, Mre Howard Ellis, died some time ago. Lady Mackenzie was staying with, her brother-in-law and sister-ui-law, Mr and Mrs James Mackenzie, j»t Karori, till she left for England.. I* .ich sympathy wiK be felt for all lier relatives, and she will be mourned by many friends os well.
