QUEEN’S THEATRE

“THE WHITE DESERT”—TONIGHT. Courtenay Ryley Cooper’s splendid action-filled romance, “The White Desert,” in screen form, undergoes its first Wellington presentation with that of tonight at the pcoular Queen's. It is the culminating point of a series of world-famous pictures that have been spun about the railroad’s titanic struggle against the many natural elements and obstructions that face such undertakings. It is described as a production with drama that dazzles, action that girps tenaciously, and love that throbs and pulsates passionately. There are tremendous moments of super thrill as when a mighty avalanche crushes the construction camp with appalling suddenness—the third epic attempt to fight through a blizzard for help—the first two ending fatally—the huge fiveengined relief train and gigantic snow plough battling against ice and snow to reach the survivors in the last hour. These are described as being but a few of the vivid potent moments that fit grandly into the magnificent sweep of events that constitute the mightiest story of a mountain grapnling with man ever filmed, namely, “The White Desert.” A brilliant cast of players includes Claire Windsor, Pat O’Malley, Frank Currier, Robert Frazer, and many others. Excellent supporting and music programmes are described as being special features of a big programme.
