T ~ ■ was severely criticised by Mr Langstone at a meeting of the Auckland League. He suggested that the matter be reopened. Mr Hammill, the chairman, said there was little chanoe. The council point blank refused to receive a notice of motion. “We take no objection to Mr Mair; it is merely the method of hie appointment that wo do not agree with.”
