THE POLICE COURT
ALLEGED NAVAL DESERTERS Police cases were dealt with before Mr E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday as follow: John Miller, an Englishman and described as a traveller, aged 61, who appered on remand to answer a charge of vagrancy, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon within twelve months, and to remain in a Salvation Army home for a period of three months. George William Evans, aged 22, and Garfield Howells, aged 19, naval seamen, charged with deserting from the H.M.S. Delhi, were refmanded until May 3rd, and ordered to be placed on board the Mararaa for Sydney. Bernard Dolan, of Napier, charged with being in charge of a motor-car while in a state of intoxication, in Lambton Quay, was convicted and fined £2O, and was suspended from holding a drivers’ license for a period of six months.
