SHORTAGE OF LABOUR

PROSPECT IN UNITED STATES Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received April 16, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, April 15. The Labour Department reports that -the United States is facing a serious employment problem, and- that there is a prospect of the first widespread labour shortage since the 1922 depression " 'The marked improvement in steel, building, textile and shoe manufacturing lines ha’ strengthened the demands for skilled and unskilled workers. Heavy demands are being made on employment agencies throughout the country for labour in the fields and along the highways in road construction. Previous employment records are expected to be shattered in/the automobile and building lines this year. Full time employment prevails in the textile industries of New England and the Southern States.

Francis Jones, the United States Employment Director, says there is going to be work for everybody who wants work.
