OLD HISTORY RECALLED
The appointment of the Italian Governor of Rhodes to the Order of St. John of Jerusalem recalls the •'Visit to London i? . the of Benrv VIII. of the Grand Prior de 1 Isle d’Adam, and the entertainment given by Henry to him at St. Jc raes's Palace. Th*. intention of the visit wae to secure help in the capture of the Island of Ivhodes, and the result was seen in the provision of 19 bronze cannon. About 10 years ago one of these guns was found by a fisherman off Cyprus. St. John's Oate at ClerkcnweU contains specimens of the coins issued by the Knights of tho Order, and an original breastplate nsed at tho siege of Rhodes.
