SOUTH WELLINGTON SCHOOL FUNDS FOB PIANO. A children’s fancy dress ball' ■Was held on March sth, in the Central Hall of the South Wellington School, in aid of the piano fund. About 300 children took part in the grand march, , and they formed a very pleasing sight. ! The fancy dresses were charming, and ! <iid credit to the taste and industry i of the parents, of whom 150 were present. ■ The children’s supper, also pro r vided try the parents, was supervised by Mcsdamea Collyer, Petherick, Iwart, Christenseu, and King. ' The judge of tho fancy dresses, Mrs James Hannah, spolte highly of the taste displayed. Mr McKeen, M.P ; , who distributed the prises, complimented all who took part. He said .that tho Wellington South School Committee was one of the most active in the district, and judging from the behaviour of the children and the ac curacy with which they went through the various evolutions the teachers must have spent much pains in their training. Not the least pleasing feature of the evening was the Folk Dances, which were watched with the keenest interest hy .the parents. The music was supplied by the teaching staff, assisted by Miss Reece and Messrs Oowdry Brothers. Sufficient money was made to purchase a new piano. On Saturday afternoon the infant children held' their patty, under the direction of Miss Little and her staff. It was equally as successful and pleasing as that of the olden eeholars. Mrs Thomas judged the. dresses. Mr Mollison, chairman =of the school committee, after distributing the prizes, presented Miss "Walls with n gold-mounted fountain pen as a gift from the committee, emphasised the long time, elevenjyetirs, that Miss Walls had been on the staff of the school. The efficiency).And enthusiasm she had displayed, • 'then excellent reports furnished by the inspectors, and by the were particularly gratifyipg to Hie eonunittee, and on their behalf he vrishfed her a happy and successful career', in her new sphere in Auokland. ....... Infants: Red Indian.
