VICTORIA COLLEGE

YESTERDAY’S COUNCIL MEETING ACADEMIC HEAD ADVOCATED LEGISLATION ASKED FOR A meeting of the Victoria College Council was held last evening, Mr R. A. MoCallum presiding. It was decided that Dr. J. S. Yeates. Dr. Mary Barkas, Miss Reader, and Messrs R. H. Espiner, H. L. Richardson, and' G. S. Troup, graduates of Victoria College at present resident in England‘and Europe, he asked to represent the college at the Conference of Universities in England, and .at the Conference of the League of Empire in Paris in July of this year. Regarding the proposal to appoint an academic head of the college, sev oral members of the council spoke in favour ‘of ’the project, and the following resolutions were carried unanimously: “That the time has arrived when the council should. be invested with power to appoint an academic head of the college,” and “That, with this object in view, the Minister for Education be requested to have legislation enacted for Victoria University College similar to that placed on the statute book in 1923 for Auckland U niveisity College/ *
