NEW ZEALAND CO!'"ML GRADING THE PROFESSIONALS The monthly meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Golf Association was held at the office of the secretary, Mr G O. Sutton, on Monday, when there were presert: Mr R. C. Kirk (chairman), and Messrs J. B. Mac Ewan, A. J. Abbott, and A. D. S. Duncan. Apologies were received from Messrs H. R. H. Balncnvis, W. E. A. Gill, and Captain Conway. The statement of financo showed a balance at tlio Savings Bank of £ H 4 4s 3d, and a credit balance at the National Bank, £6l lfls Hie chairman reported on bis, visit to tlio piofessionals’ tournament at Dunedin, and on liis motion it was resolved: “Hint the council records and tenders to the Otago Golf Club its thanks for the efficient manner in w hich tlio club officials carried through the recent professional tournament at Balnipecwnn, and also thanks those officials for their courtesy and considera-

tion to the council’s chairman during bis visit.” The chairman suggested, and it was agreed to. that in view of the play oi some of the professionals at the recent tournament, the question of grading them into, say, three grades should be seriously considered when arranging the draw for the next open championship, for the standard of play of some of them does not warrant their .taking precedence of low-hanoicappcd amateurs in the “open.” It wa« resolved to write to the honorary secretary oi the Professionals’ Association on the subject. Programmes were forwarded by the following clubs for their Easter tournaments, all on April 3rd, sth, and 6th: Manawatu Golf dub (Palmerston North), Christchurch Golf Club (Shirley), Auckland Golf Club (Middlemorc), Wellington Golf Chib (Heretaunga). Hie Man-watr Golf Club also advised that it had definitely decided to hold its open tournament on the Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday immediately preceding the New Zealand championships at Miramar.
