Tlie fire at Karl Grey’s mansion, TTowiok House, Northumberland, was helped hv the fact that the fire brigade coming from thirty miles distant lost its way in a fog. Lady Grey, who was indisposed, was carried to a neighbouring house. Tho police and farm workers saved the most valuable furniture and goods in the lower rooms. Only s:t thick stone walls remain of the central portion of the building.
