BUSH FIRES IN VICTORIA HILLS ALIGHT FOR MILES. By Telegrnpn.—Pres* Assn.—Copyright MELBOURNE, February 2. .Fanned by a strong wind the bush hres are raging fiercely. The flames are tearing towards Emerald and Cockatoo, approaching the latter from an opposite quarter to that taken by the disastrous fire which destroyed ten houses earlier in the week. Homesteads in the lower Dandenong Ranges are encircled by wails of flame fifty vii 11 i um * a T OUnd the Tumut valley the hills are alight for miles. It is impossible to get within half a mile of the advancing flames. A later message states that the hush tires are causing; extensive damage, there have been no casualtiea though there havo been many narrow escapes.
