A DAY AT TRENTHAM

TRANSPORT WORKERS’ PICNIC LARGE GATHERING. Except for a light shower of rain (hiring the luncheon adjournment the Transport Workers’ picnic, which was held on Wednesday on the Trentham racecourse, passed off in delightful weather. Over 400 journeyed to the grounds in special trains, and of this number more than half were children, while 240 children from St. Joseph’s j Orphanage; Upper 1 Lutt, also attended at the invitation of the picnic committee. All the children were provided with toys, lollies, soft drinks, and icecreams. Luring' the day the Miramar Band played several selections. Children from the age of 11 to 15 were kept busy competing in all kinds' of events during the day, under the supervision of a children’s committee, while the tiny tots were well catered for in an enclosed part of the lawn in front of the people’s stand. The following are the results of the various races, dancing, baby, and the guessing competition:— Old men’s race, 75yds: W. A. Brown and Joe Murray (dead heat).
