RAM FAIR

POOR DEMAND FOR ROMNEYS. Per Prees Association HASTINGS, January 28. The annual ram fair was opened on the A. and P. Show Grounds, in splendid weather. The catalogue was tho largest since 1919, with a total entry of 6500. To-day was devoted to Romneys, nna the sale opened unpropitiously, there being practically no demand. Lots passed In freely. This is ascribed to (be bad season which has been experienced. As the sole progressed the bidding brijjhtered up, and there woe a distinct improvement in the tone of the market, prices being quite satisfactory, on the average,, for the better sorts. Top price was 20 guineas, paid by Mr F. Franklin, of Wairarapa, for five shearlings sold on account of Mr A. McLeod, of Feilding. To-morrow will be devoted to the various breeds as well as studs.
