CROSS-WORD PUZZLES DECLARED "tcTBE LEGAL. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, January 26. That the solving of a cross-word puzzle entails a certain degree of skill and ability, and that a competition advertised in the “Poveity Bay Herald" in connection with such puzzle was therefore not illegal, was the judgment given by Mr &vv«y, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court this morning. The case waa one in which the police proceeded against the “Herald” Company on a charge of publishing an advertisement which made it appear that certain premises in Gisborne were used for we purpose of taking part in a scheme of., which the prizes were gained by chance.
