HEATHCOTE WILLIAMS SHIELD CHRISTCHURCH v. AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND. January, 26. The first Heathcote Williams Shield match played in Auckland for a considerable time Was commenced on a perfect, wicket at Eden Park yesterday. The challengers, the Christohurch Boys - High School, were 59 runs behind, Auckland Grammar School on. the first innings. Grammar School hatted first, but owing to the good bowling by Merritt were dismissed for the comparatively moderate total of 155. The fast wicket accounted for the failures of the Christchurch; Boys in the .first innings, and they were dismissed for 104. Grammar School replied with 38 for three wickets, and then stumps were drawn for the day. Kasper, of Auckland, was responsible for a very fine bowling performance, capturing six Christchurch wickets at a cost of only 46 runs. The batting of both sides was-not very impressive, but McCarthy and Schnauer, of Grammar, and Ward and Innes, of Christchurch, all made their runs with good shots. Scores:— AUCKLAND.—First Innings.
