BREACH OF STATUTE 1 EVENING POST” CONVICTED. Reserved judgment was delivered by Mr E. Page, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday afternoon in the case in which the Crown prosecuted Blundell Bros., Ltd., proprietors of the “Evening Post,” in respect to the publication of statements as to the dividends paid by the totalisator, or as to the starting prices in certain races at the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting at Trentham on October 24th last. The decision of the magistrate was in favour of the prosecution, His Worship ordering a conviction, on the ground that there had been proved a breach of the Gaming Act in regard to the publication of both dividend and starting price. On the first charge the magistrate imposed a fine of £5 and costs. On the second charge, the defendants were convicted.
