LIGHTS FAIL

LINE TROUBLE CAUSES INTERRUPTION CITY COUNCIL WORKS IN SPASMS. An interruption in the ujain transmission line caused some temporary inconvenience to residents in the city last evening. At 7.35 the lights gradually dimmed and went out, coming on again faintly in ten minutes’ time. They remained so for some five minutes when they suddenly shot up to full strength, only to go out completely shortly after. A minute later the light-', •came bn fully, but again dimmed for some minutes before service was fully re-established. THE COUNCIL WAITS WHEN THE LIGHTS FAILED. Held up in their meeting because of the failure of their own electric" supply city councillors congregated outside the doors of the council chamber last evening. Lights failed in all portions of the city, and tramways also were held up. A fault in the Government supply somewhere about Ngahauranga troubled consumers, as it threw tho council’s service out of order as well. The trouble began at about 7.40 p.m., and continued in spasms until about 8.15. The. changed over districts, on a 50cycle supply, were affected only for about five minutes, however.
