SAD FATALITY
ACCIDENT AT REGATTA STROKE OF CREW DROWNED. Per Press Association. WESTPORT, December 17. The opening of the Kawatiri Row. ing Club’s season, this afternoon, was marred by the drowning of - James Gilbert Findlay, chemist, 3 years of a married man. Findlay stroked the crew that won the race, and when the boat was return me it* shipped u sea and swamped. The crew hung on to the boat as it drifted dovyn the river in the rapid current, hut nearing Crane Wharf Findlay attempted to swim ashore with the coxswain, Albert Ccashore with the coxswain, Albert McLean. Becoming exhausted he told MoLean to carry on himself and shortly afterwards disappeared. McLean reached the jiropellor of the Ngakuta and hung on until rescued.* Finnerty, in a dinghy, rescued the other three members of the crew, Grogan, Hay, Mackenzie, and Caldwell,
