WATER SUPPLY

PARAPARAUMU AND BEACH > SETTLEMENT To provide suitable water supply fo* the Paraparaumu township and beach settlement, the engineer of the Hutt County Council (Mr A. H. Denham) has drawn up plans and defined a special rating area. The report presented at yesterday's meeting of the council stated that unless the owners of the farm lands fronting Kapiti Beach road, between the township and the beach, were prepared to be included in the district, it would be necessary to make two districts and raise two loans. It was proposed that the cost in respect to the head works and the main to the township should be equally divided between the two areas. A farther 318 chains of pipe would be required for the beach, bringing the total estimate to ,£IO,OOO, instead of .£9OOO, as previously stated. The amounts to be borne by the two areas were—township .03800, beach £6200. To provide interest and sinking fund at, say, S per cent, of tho above 6Ums, the township area would have to provide ,£334 per annum and the beach area .£546 per annum. A rate of 22-25ths of a penny in the £ would be required for the furmer, and 3Jd in the £ for the latter. The report was referred to the Pnraparaumu Ratepayers' Association, which meets next week.
