PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE
STATEMENT FOR AUGUST. Particulars of the loan transactions of the Public Trust Office and new business reported during the month ended August 31st last have been supplied by the Hon. the Prime Minister, During the month ended August 31st tho amount paid out in settlement of new loans was £36l,336—private mortgagors <£89,401, and local bodies ,*£271,929 —making a total of new loans paid out during the present financial year since April Ist last of <£1,475.050. In the same period • new loans were granted amounting to \ ,£168,950 —private mortgagors .£34,340 and ; local bodies <£134,610. The new ’ granted but not yet paid amount to* j £997,008 and amounts offered being less . than the full loans applied for amount to £98,900, a grand total of £1,095,908. Further applications tor loans awaiting consideration amount to £474,710. during the - month under review the value New business continues to flow into the office in a most satisfactory manner, and , durng the month under revew the value of the estates accepted for administra- , tion again exceeded half a million pounds (£509,160). Since April Ist last new estates of a total value of £2,289,811 have been reported. It is evident that the new business for the current year will exceed all previous records. A further 487 wills were deposited during the month by living testators, making the total no.v held 46,145 —a further indication of the confidence which the public repose in the office.
