SHIPPING OFFICERS’ MATCH
WELLINGTON’S GOOD WIN. The Shipping Officers’ Guild match, Wellington ,y. Christchurch, was played at North Park, Christchurch, on Saturday. Wellington won the toss and played with the wind and sun behind them. Play was even for 20 minutes, then Whinham (N.Z.S. Co.) potted three goals in succession. Just before halitime Crawford ‘ (U.S.S. Co.) crossed in the corner. Wellington 15, Christchurch. 0. Wellington, playing against a dying wind and strong sun m the second half, were attacking throughout the spell. Tries were registered by McKelvey, Connor* and Clark, but none were converted.. The game ended; Wellington 24, Christchurch 0. After the match the teams were entertained to dinner at TattersaUs. Hotel. Mr Read, chairman of the Christchurch * Guild, presided, and with him were associated Messrs Price (manager U.S.S. Co.), Elliot (manager NJS.S. Co.), and Ledger (TJ.S.S. Co., retired). The team was officially welcomed by Mr Read. Mr W. A. Smith (manager of the Wellington team) responded. Mr McKenzie (captain of the Christchurch team) congratulated the winners, Mr A.- Brown, on behalf of Mr Whinham# the Wellington captain, replying.
