Good big men are scarce in the boxing game in Australia and New Zealand. It is an easy matter to get together a pair of lightweights who will give a good night’s entertainment, but promoters and associations are at a loss when it conies to middleweights and heavies. One yearns for a repetition of the days of Les Darcy, Dave Smith, Jimmy Clabby, Bill Squires, Colin Bell, and others of the past who have had the speed of bantams, and the punch that thrills. The Wellington association are putting two big men in the ring on Monday night next —Mery Williams, one of

the latest arrivals from Australia, and Max Gornik, who has fotight several good fights in the Dominion. Williams was noted in Australia for his punching ability, and he has gained two victories over Gornik by the short cut route. * There is no gainsaying the fact that Gornik is improving, and when the pair meet for the third time he will

dispute the issue for the whole of the journey. He will have the advantage in weight, and another thing in his favour is the fact that he has -been in the ring on more occasions than Williams during the past six months. There is nothing like a real bout to sharpen a fighter up. Williams, in view of his splendid record, will be favourite, but the result may be closer than most followers of the game think. —Crown Studio, photo.

The Rifle Association of Australia has invited the National Rifle Association of EnglAid to send a rifle team to Australia in 1926 to compete for the Empire Trophy. Canada, South Africa, and New Zealand have been invited, too.
