MINERS FIGHT POLICE
MIDNIGHT RIOT IN WALES SCORES OF CASUALTIES. Reuter’s Telegram. LONDON, August 0. Grave rioting occurred at the Ammanford colliery, in Wales. Five hundred strikers raided a pit at midnight, with the object of fetching out two workers, and the police who defended the colliery were attacked with sticks and stones. There were many casualties on both sides, including the Deputy-Chief. Constable and an inspector, who were severely injured. The manager’s house was damaged. ■ 1 A strong contingent of Glamorgan and Carmarthen police restored order. Over 100 miners and 12 policemen were injured during the midnight riots, and’ many innocent people suffered when the police cleared the streets. A police ’bus was stoned, and the police alighted and charged with their batons.
