TROUBLESOME SEAMAN
DISOBEYS LAWFUL COMMANDS REFUSES TO DO ANY WORK. Per Press' Association • GISBORNE, August 7. On a charge of disobeying the lawful command of an officer, preferred against Thomas Roots, a seaman oh the steamer Waiwera, the police stated that the accused absented himself from the steamer c.t Nelson, and was sent to Napier to rejoin the vessel. At Wellington he stowed himself away on another boat, and was charged with desertion. He was sentenced to imprisonment, and was placed aboard At Auckland. On the journey to Gisborne he refused to do any work. The magistrate ordered accused to be placed on the ship to-morrow, when the vessel sails direct for England.
