REPLY TO CRITICISM PROTEST BY BOARD.

te-aforrlng to the criticism made by tho Hon. W. Baxnshaw, M.L.C., in regard to the work of technical colleges, the chairman of the Wellington Technical College Board of Governors (Mr W. H. Rennert) reported to tho board last evening that he had .drafted a reply to the Hon. Earnjshaw, in which he points out that the board was surprised to see in .irint hw general condemnation of the work and results of the technical branch of the educational System of to-day in contrast with that in vogue 60 years ago. Tho letter 'stated:—"We would point out that it is comparatively easy to stand up in a public place and make wide and sweeping statements against any system, hut not so easy to point out definite faults and suggest a remdy.” It further stated that as far as the operation of the Wellington Board were concerned, it was guided in a largo measure by the advice of various committees composed of those who, no doubt, knew the requirements of the various branches of commerce end industry. “My board directs me to Say," the letter continued, “that they would welcome some constructive criticism that woqld help to build up what IS an essential part of our educational system, hut deprecates that general fault-finding that tends to discourage the earnest endeavours of your fellow citizens who are striving earnestly for the good of the Dominion. In conclusion I am directed to say that if you have any helpful suggestions to make; we shall he most grateful to receive them and give them due consideration.” The board decided to 'forward the reply to the Hon. Earnshaw.
