DEADLY GAS “POCKET”

An explosion in the metropolitan colliery at Helensburgh killed two rnm'ers, West (25) and' Frederick Green (27). Nine miners were working at the face when a pick penetrated a pocket of gas. The noise of the gas escaping was heard, and seven men ran to safety. Green and Vfest remained and were billed instantlyJLby the ensuing explosion. Their bodies were recovered.
