PRINCIPLE NOT APPROVED
BY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE v GOVERNMENT BY ORDER-IN-COUNCIL. Wellington Chamber of Commerce yesterday adopted the following report piesented by a joint committee The principle of Government by Order-in-oouncil cannot be approved by the chamber. However, we ednnot fail to recognise that there are many occasions, particularly in matters affecting (lie Customs, where the power has been exercised for the benefit of the community, and the authority has not been vied unreasonably, and there are times when it is of advantage for action and decision to be obtained promptly. It is uifficult to say just where the power should be given and should be withheld. Exception was taken to two ..sentences in the report and these were excised.
